The Hip Hop Housewife.

Not “housewife” as in I tell you how to clean your kitchen and please your mate.

Not “Hip Hop” as in I review every album and weigh in on every controversy.

Instead, a culturally literate woman documenting what (past and present) catches my eye, ear, memory and taste.

And I have decades of cultural memory to draw from.

My blog doesn’t exist to tell you how to live. Instead I document what it looks like when the people raised alongside Hip Hop are now living full-grown adult lives without surrendering the culture that helped cultivate them. I document taste, culture and life.

A Hip Hop Housewife is what happens when the woman who grew up on the music and culture grows up-but still appreciates and never forgets how the culture helped shape her.

Adults who are 40-something now. Home. Marriage. Children. Career. Bills. A curated closet. Beauty rituals. Recipes. Travels. Memories. Records/CDs/music. Books. Adult purchasing power. Nostalgia. Opinions about style and culture. And Hip Hop remains part of the cultural language through which they experience all of it.

Hip Hop grew up. So did we.

Enjoy the writing.

Sincerely,

The Hip Hop Housewife
